Each year at the Robert Burns Celebration, Nevada Society of Scottish Clans

presents its highest honor — the Silver Thistle Award — to the "Scot of the Year."  
 

This prestigious award recognizes Americans of Scottish ancestry for:

  • outstanding service to the people and communities of Northern Nevada

       and  northeastern California; and

  • significant contributions in business, medicine, education, fine arts and/or philanthropy.

Nominees must be permanent residents of Northern Nevada or northeastern

California. Membership in Nevada Society of Scottish Clans is not required. 

Application

Are you an American of Scottish ancestry? If no, you are ineligible for this award.
Are you a permanent resident of Northern Nevada or northeastern California? If no, you are ineligible for this award.
Are you available to attend the Robert Burns Celebration on January 30, 2027, during which the Silver Thistle Award will be presented? Attendance is ideal, but not required.
Award category/categories in which you (applicant) have excelled.

Judging of Nominee Applications
 

Judges will use a point system for judging applications. A maximum of 100 points may be awarded in categories 1 – 4, with the highest points granted in categories 1 and 2, which address the primary purpose of the award. Category 5 creates the opportunity of a bonus of up to 10 points, for a potential total of 110 points.
