Sierra Highlanders
Nevada's Sierra
Highlanders Pipe Band was founded in 1961 by John
"Scotty" Sneddon who served with the Gordon Highlanders
in World War I and, soon after, became pipe major of the
1st Highland Light Infantry. The Reno-based pipe
band continues a Nevada tradition dating back to 1865
and Virginia City's Bonanza Period with the state's
first celebration of the birthday of Scotland's Poet
Laureate Robert Burns.
Reno & District Firefighters Pipe
Band
Reno & District
Firefighters Pipe Band was established in 2003 by SFC
Mike Connell.
The 19-member Pipe Band practices weekly and is
committed to actively performing and competing in front
of more than 175,000 fans in many different Nevada and
California venue sites.
Desert Skye Pipes & Drums
Desert Skye was
originally Clark County Celts and was created by Fred
Marshe, Tony Bakerink, and Mason McNinch III back in the
early part of 1999.

Army

one. A wee bit slow to load (on my computer at least!),
but likely worth the wait.
Mother Lode Scots
The Mother Lode Scots of
Amador County in the Gold Rush/Mother Lode area of
Northern California was organized in 1979 to provide an
association for Scots and descendents of Scots who have
been migrating from Scotland for the past 300 years.
The Mother Lode Scots, like
their counterparts the world over, enjoy participating
in Scottish celebrations, where they have an opportunity
to wear the kilt, or just display a bit of their clan
tartan.
Celtic League, American Branch
Founded

The Scottish Coalition
The Scottish Coalition
is composed of eight national organizations serving the

shared vision is that fruitful and mutually supportive

heritage shall become better known and more widely

Scottish Heritage USA
Scottish Heritage USA was founded in 1965 by Ward
Melville "to recognize and enhance the original bonds of
ancestral and national character among the peoples of
Scotland and North America; and to disseminate knowledge
of their respective cultural heritages; and in
furtherance of such purposes to support the preservation
of historic sites, the maintenance of centers of
artistic and literary endeavor and such other activities
as may be appropriate."
